cavitation

Cavitation is a mechanical phenomenon generated by high intensity, low frequency energy. They are waves that cross biological tissues and generate cavities or "microbubbles", which grow to a size that leads them to implode.

In addition to causing the cell to burst, it also causes the breakdown of the large molecules that make it up, that is, the fats contained in the adipocytes in the form of triglycerides. These are broken into fatty acids and glycerol by the action of lipase enzymes.

cavitation uses

Currently, the use of this technique is not only for aesthetic purposes, but also for medical ones. The time allocated to each work area is 10 to 15 minutes and only one area is performed per session (buttocks, abdomen, internal or external area of the leg). This treatment is indicated for the following

Localized fat reduction.
Cellulite reduction.
Reabsorption of edemas (those with high protein content).
Disorganization of bruises.
Reduction of fibrosis in hypertrophic scars and fibrotic areas.

What are the benefits of cavitation?

Cavitation, in addition to being a technique that helps aesthetically, is accompanied by many other benefits that are related to health. It is a non-invasive and painless procedure that provides interesting results when accompanied by a good diet and physical exercise.

  • It is a treatment for men and women.
  • It is intended for all skin types.
  • It is one of the most attractive options for those who want to shape their figure. It offers advantages over surgical liposuction, which is more complicated, more expensive, and carries more risk and postoperative care.
  • The skin becomes more elastic, so this treatment is a good alternative in cases of abdominoplasty.
  • Improves the results of liposuction by helping to tighten the skin naturally.

    How is the procedure performed?

Cavitation is performed on body areas of 10 x 10 centimeters, and it is not recommended to treat more than two areas of this size in each session. Since it does not produce inflammation or local edema, the volume reduction can be measured after the session, although it will be maximum in 48-72 hours.

In several studies it was observed that the abdominal circumference was reduced from 1.3 to 2.5 centimeters in a single session; and with 3 sessions it was reduced from 2.3 to 3.5 centimeters.

It is normal for the skin of the treated area to appear erythematous and sometimes with small vesicles. This resolves spontaneously in a few minutes. At the end of the procedure, the patient leaves the consultation with a compression garment or girdle to favor the modeling of the area.

How many sessions are necessary?

Like any fat-reducing treatment, cavitation requires a minimum of 8 sessions. As treatment progresses, the indicated care should be followed.

Contraindications of cavitation

Cavitation is a treatment that almost any type of person can undergo, unlike certain medical interventions that are contraindicated for specific health problems. Treatment is not indicated in the following situations:

  • Dyslipidemia.
  • Pacemaker or underlying metallic prosthesis.
  • Skin allergies, infections or active wounds.
  • Pregnancy.
  • Infraumbilical abdomen in patients with IUD.
  • In areas where there is bone, near the anterior superior iliac spine, it should be avoided so as not to cause reflection of the waves or future damage to the skin. This is indicated by a study published in Seminars in Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery.

Recommendations for after the session

After a lipolytic procedure, it is recommended to perform at least 30 minutes of physical activity (walking, treadmill, bicycle, vibrating platform, etc.) to increase the effectiveness of the treatment.

This helps speed up the metabolism of released triglycerides and prevents them from being re-uptaken by healthy adipocytes for incorporation into fat tissue.

A low-fat diet is recommended during the days following treatment, as well as the intake of plenty of fluids. This will be decisive in avoiding the reappearance of unwanted fat accumulation after the procedure.
