Post Operative Treatment
Postoperative therapy is a complementary therapy to surgery, which effectively reduces recovery time. It is mainly based on the reduction of edema through lymphatic drainage. Manual lymphatic drainage is very important in the treatment and care after cosmetic surgery.
Being a manual technique that improves lymphatic circulation, its use will help to eliminate the rest of the post-surgical problems sooner. Thanks to DLM we improve tissue healing, eliminate or reduce postoperative discomfort and accelerate recovery.
Reduce pain and inflammation Improve healing and avoid subcutaneous fibrosis in liposuction
Avoid capsular contracture in breast augmentation, accelerate the disappearance of ecchymosis and other benefits.
When to start manual lymphatic drainage after surgery?
Manual lymphatic drainage is a gentle massage technique that does not traumatize the tissue and favors its inflammation. Therefore, it can be used depending on the operation performed, starting 24 or 48 hours after the intervention. The starting time is decided by the plastic surgeon who has performed the operation. After liposuction and other procedures where early skin mobilization is not desirable, it may be necessary to delay the start until 5 to 7 days have elapsed.
Is it necessary to use lymphatic drainage supplements?
To improve or maintain the results obtained with lymphatic drainage it is necessary to use other techniques or therapies as a complement, these are Ultrasound, Ozone Therapy, High Frequency, Pressotherapy, Bandages.
The results obtained can also be improved with an increase in fluid intake and specific mobilization exercises.
What are the objectives of manual lymphatic drainage in the postoperative period of any surgery?
- Accelerate the resorption of edema and ecchymosis.
- Eliminate the remains of medication, anesthesia and serum used in the operation.
- Promote the regeneration of damaged capillaries and lymphatic vessels after liposuction.
- Reduces discomfort and provides comfort in the postoperative period.
- Reduce the duration of the postoperative period.
- Improve the condition of the skin.
- Accelerate tissue recovery.
- Accelerate the recovery of skin sensitivity.
- To promote skin retraction.
- Accelerate the reabsorption of fibrous areas by stimulating macrophages.
- Avoid redness and cystic scars that can cause permanent skin retraction.
How many sessions of Manual Lymphatic Drainage are necessary?
We recommend a minimum of 7 to 10 MLD sessions after surgery. The ideal is to carry out the sessions twice a week during the first fifteen days, spacing them out according to recovery. This treatment after two months can be aimed at treating the scar.
Who should apply Manual Lymphatic Drainage?
The execution technique must be precise and the mobilization of the skin during the first week must be minimal to facilitate the correct retraction of the skin. The procedure can damage lymphatic vessels and skin junctions with underlying structures; early mobilization of the skin can hinder proper lymphatic regeneration and the creation of bonds between the skin and underlying structures. Excessive mobilization could lead to looser skin, worsening the result of the intervention. For this reason it is VERY IMPORTANT that the massage be performed by a professional specialized in the manual lymphatic drainage technique.
